FAQ

Q: How is my donation spent?
A: The donor decides how it is spent. It can be earmarked for the General Fund where it is used to offset costs related to the distribution of the AdventureBGA Reading Program or the donor may choose to purchase the Reading Program for a specific school (or schools).

Q: What percent of the money that I donate for a Reading Program funds the Reading Program?
A: Unlike many 501(c)(3) charitable organizations, one-hundred percent (100%) of your funding for this program ends up in the hands of the students in the schools of your choice.

Q: What is the purpose of the program?
A: Reading has become a "bottom shelf" activity for most children. The Internet, Spark Notes, Instant (IM) and Text Messaging, video games and television have all but replaced what used to be considered the greatest pastime of all. Not so long ago children would occupy their minds with a book which led to opening their imaginations. Children expressed themselves through drawing, writing and music. It is our belief that children can be returned to those days with our combined efforts.

Q: What are the reading program details?
A: The AdventureBGA Reading Program consists of two components packaged in a DVD case. The first one is the CD entitled Bilbo’s Great Adventure, a musical version of the JRR Tolkien classic, “The Hobbit”. This contemporary musical tribute wraps powerful lyrics in dazzling, yet simple melodies in twenty-four songs for sixty-three minutes and follows the story perfectly. The second is the 24-page booklet. Suitable for all reading levels, the booklet contains the lyrics reprinted to read like a book together with instructions for the reader to best benefit from their participation. Throughout the booklet are color drawings, watercolors and paintings of scenes depicted in the book. These artistic expressions (poetry, music, drawings and paintings) are examples of the power of the written word.

Q: How does AdventureBGA work?
A: Before they begin students are asked to write their opinion about reading. Students then read along with the music from the booklet, understanding that the music, poetry and art were a direct result of the artist reading the actual book. Students work in groups of four and complete the two-part assignment. One is an assessment of the artist’s work. The other is a second opinion card.
